How are the products packaged?

Plus

Plus

Minus
Plus

What happens to returned items?

Minus
Plus

We never resell any returned products that have been unpackaged by the customer. The destination of these returned products depends on the product.

Any topper that is returned to our warehouse is placed directly into a segregated shipping container outside of our warehouse and picked up by local mattress refurbisher. The local mattress refurbisher uses these toppers in refurbished mattresses. These mattresses are sold under a different brand name and must be labeled as refurbished mattresses.

It is not currently feasible to have mattress returns shipped back to our warehouse if the mattress has been unpackaged. We use a third-party service to complete pickups of returned mattresses. Whenever possible, the removal service will try to recycle or donate the mattress. We also generally give customers who are returning a mattress the option of directly donating the mattress to chairty to ensure that the mattress is put to good use. Many customers who do donate mattresses find local non-profit organizations or church groups that will accept the donation.

We do our best to mitigate waste from returns and are working to find ways to further reduce waste created by returns in the future. That being said, there is inherent waste with all returns and we understand that a product return is not the desired outcome for anyone. We encourage anyone who is unsure about their purchase to reach out to us with any questions so we can work together to minimize the chance of a return.

Are your mattresses organic?

Minus
Plus

Yes, our mattresses are certified organic under the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) by Oregon Tilth. Our certification is available on the Pure Green Natural Latex Mattress product page. It can also be verified on the GOTS Website

Do your mattresses pass the federal fire testing?

Minus
Plus

Yes! We don't use any fire retardant chemicals or barriers, but the layer of wool in the mattress cover acts as a natural fire barrier. This allows our mattresses to pass all of the required federal fire tests.

Do your mattresses contain formaldehyde?

Minus
Plus

No, our mattresses do not contain formaldehyde. Our Mattresses, Mattress Toppers and Pillows are all Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1 certified. Physical formaldehyde content must be below detectable limits when tested using Japanese Law 112 Method to qualify for this certification.

Twin: 15" x 15" x 48"
Twin XL: 15" x 15" x 48"
Full: 15" x 15" x 69"
Queen: 15" x 15" x 69"
King: 15" x 15" x 83"
Cal King: 15" x 15" x 83"

Do I need to air out the mattress?

Minus
Plus

No, you do not need to air out your new mattress. The odor of the mattress may be stronger when first opened but should dissipate to some extent with time. The reduction in odor will be most noticeable in the week after opening the package. While you can air out the mattress during this time, we urge customers to do so cautiously.

Many methods people use to air out our products actually increase the odor rather than reduce it. Placing the foam in heat or sunlight can cause the odor to drastically increase for an extended period of time and may damage the foam. If you choose to air out the mattress, we recommend doing so in a cool dark room with good ventilation.

Is the mattress cover machine washable?

Minus
Plus

No, the mattress cover can be removed but is not machine washable. We recommend only spot cleaning the mattress cover or dry cleaning the entire cover, if necessary.

Does the mattress need to be flipped or rotated?

Minus
Plus

The mattress is designed to only be used on one side and should not be flipped. The mattress can be rotated, if desired, but rotating the mattress at regular intervals is not necessary.

What type of foundation or frame do you recommend using with your mattresses?

Minus
Plus

We recommend a platform base or slatted foundation with spacing that is 3" apart or less. If you need to use a box spring, we strongly suggest using a bunky board or plywood board for extra support. Our mattresses are also very flexible and will work great on adjustable bed frames.

Toppers

What are the dimensions of the mattress toppers?

Minus
Plus

The dimensions of the mattress toppers are:

Twin: 38” x 75”
Twin XL: 38” x 80”
Full: 54” x 75”
Queen: 60” x 80”
King: 76” x 80”
Cal King: 72” x 84”

Due to the elastic nature of latex foam, it can be hard to cut to an exact dimension. Because of this we do allow for a variance of +/- 1”.

Do the toppers come with a cover?

Minus
Plus

Our toppers do not automatically come with a cover. You have the option of adding a cover to any order by checking the "add organic cotton cover" box when you're adding the topper to your cart. We also sell our topper covers separately.

Will you place the topper in the cover for me?

Minus
Plus

Yes! As long as you order the topper and cover at the same time, we will send the topper to you already encased in the cover. This only applies to orders placed on SleepOnLatex.com.

Are the topper covers machine washable?

Minus
Plus

Yes, our mattress topper covers are pre-shrunk and machine washable.

Do I need to air out the topper?

Minus
Plus

No, you do not need to air out your new mattress topper. The odor of the topper may be stronger when first opened but should dissipate to some extent with time. The reduction in odor will be most noticeable in the week after opening the package. While you can air out the topper during this time, we urge customers to do so cautiously.

Many methods people use to air out our products actually increase the odor rather than reduce it. Placing the foam in heat or sunlight can cause the odor to drastically increase for an extended period of time and may damage the foam. If you choose to air out the topper, we recommend doing so in a cool dark room with good ventilation.

Does it matter which side of the topper faces up?

Minus
Plus

No, either side can be placed facing up. There will not be any difference in performance between the two sides.

How do you fit the topper back in the box for a return?

Minus
Plus

The toppers can be difficult to get back into their original boxes after they are unpackaged and decompressed. We can send you a larger return box at no charge upon request.

Do your mattress toppers contain formaldehyde?

Minus
Plus

Foam

Where is your latex foam manufactured?

Minus
Plus

Our latex foam is manufactured at our own foam processing facility in Sri Lanka for our mattresses, toppers, and shredded pillows. The foam in our pillows is made in The Netherlands through a unique manufacturing process.

How do I know that your latex foam is made with 100% natural latex?

Minus
Plus

We never use any synthetic latex in our foam. We lab test samples of our foam to make absolutely sure that it contains only natural latex.

What certifications do you have?

Minus
Plus

Our foam is certified by GOLS, Oeko-Tex and the Eco Institut, and Fair for Life.

Is your latex foam organic?

Minus
Plus

Yes, all of the natural latex foam used in our mattresses and toppers is certified organic under GOLS (Global Organic Latex Standard). We are proud to be supporting and incentivizing organic agriculture through this program.

The latex foam used in our pillows is not GOLS certified but is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified.

We have been critical of GOLS in the past. We remain critical of GOLS (mainly due to lack of enforcement and fraud) but found it to be the best fit to encourage and certify adherence to sustainable practices within our supply chain. Unfortunately, we continue to believe that the majority of "Organic" and "GOLS Certified" mattresses in the USA currently being sold are the result of fraud. We are continuing our efforts to lobby all relevant parties for change and enforcement.

If your latex foam made through the Dunlop or Talalay process?

Minus
Plus

Our Pure Green® natural latex foam, which is used in our mattresses and mattress toppers, is made through the Dunlop process. We use the dunlop process because we believe Dunlop process foam works better for more people. Some people do have a preference for Talalay process foam, but many do not like the "bouncy" feel of Talalay foam. While Dunlop foam is springy, it is not "bouncy" like talalay foam, and in our experience, works better for more people.

Our pillows are made with Talalay process latex foam. While we believe that Dunlop foam is a superior choice for mattresses and mattress toppers, we think that Talalay process foam is best suited for pillows.

Do your latex foam products contain formaldehyde?

Minus
Plus

No, our latex foam products do not contain formaldehyde. Our Mattresses, Mattress Toppers and Pillows are all Oeko-Tex Standard 100 Class 1 certified. To become certified, physical formaldehyde content must be below detectable limits according to Japanese Law 112 Method testing.

Is your latex foam “Chemical-Free”?

Minus
Plus

We never advertise our products as being “chemical-free” for a few different reasons.

One is that there is an inherent vagueness in making this claim as it is unclear what qualifies as a “chemical” and what doesn’t qualify as a “chemical”. We have found that different people have different understandings of what exactly constitutes a “chemical” and what aspect of the product this type of claim refers to (production process? ingredients? final product? VOC emmisions? etc...)

Vagueness of the term aside, latex foam is always created through a process called vulcanization. In this process, latex particles are cross-linked with sulfur through the introduction of heat. Zinc Oxide and other accelerators help to facilitate this reaction. Anti-Oxidants are used to preserve and protect the foam. Other chemicals are used in the processing and production of the latex and foam. While the vast majority of foam is made up of natural latex and it qualifies for many stringent certifications that ensure it’s safety, we do not believe it is correct to refer to any latex foam as being “chemical-free”.
